One-Point Perspective The preceding drawings of the covered bridge demonstrate simple onepoint perspective. All horizontal lines that recede at a point, from the viewer converge the vanishing point, on the horizon. Horizontal lines that pass across in front of the viewer, however, appear to be parallel to the horizon.

I use these to sharpen up some of the dark edges that I create using the broadpoint pencils. I mention when I do this in the various lessons and demonstrations throughout the book. of intellectual center of interest to an otherwise general rule Pencil Techniques Sharpening the edges of dark passages Figure 2-2 shows you what I mean about sharpening up the edges of dark passages. In figure 2-2A, I have just filled in the dark areas with a broadpoint 6B pencil. These darks did not run tightly up to the lines on my guide drawing, as I did not want to get the dark 6B lead on the places that I wanted to be very light.

Then I transfer the correct elements to the paper on which I will do the final drawing. Transferring of drawings is covered later in this chapter. This procedure saves my final paper from a lot of abuse from erasing. If the fibers of your paper are roughened up from erasing, neither ink nor pencil will take uniformly. The ink will feather out and the pencil marks are caused to be darker in roughened areas than in the unerased areas. The drawing up that I transfer shows as barely visible pencil lines.
